Partners in Conservation: Pam Cutler

Our work happens alongside the people of Teton County, and we love hearing from them. We recently spoke with Pam Cutler, Teton County resident, about her experience with our Well Test Kit Program.

Thank you to Pam for sharing her experience with us!

What made you decide to participate in TCD's Well Test Kit Program?
“We had noticed changes in our water. It had been gradual over time. Some neighbors had experienced changes too and had simply dealt with a plumbing company, but we did not find them to be thorough. So we reached out to TCD as a source of more comprehensive information, with no financial incentive to sell us anything.”

What was your experience like working with TCD staff?
“Excellent. The entire team was knowledgeable, professional, and had a scientific approach to helping us figure out what was going on. They earned my trust through their obvious concern and open approach to helping me address my concerns.”

What does it mean to you to have a service like this available in Teton County?
“We need a local organization to be a monitoring and clearinghouse source of fact-finding and education on the many real and potential environmental issues that impact our health, future, and quality of life. This is a huge value! They are a very behind-the-scenes service that serves all Teton County residents, helping us address everything from weeds and pests to water and wildfire risk mitigation.”

Is there anything else you would like to share with the community about partnering with TCD?
“They were nimble in adding certain elements to the standard water test kit profile as emerging contaminants evolve.”

About the Well Test Kit Program:
TCD's Well Test Kit Program helps Teton County residents test their private well water.

Well test kits are available to Teton County, WY residents for $50. Each kit costs Teton Conservation District $130 from Analytical Services Laboratory, and the remaining cost is subsidized by Teton County property taxes.

Standard ($50) well test kits include arsenic, chloride, fluoride, iron, manganese, nitrate, nitrite, lead, pH, sodium, sulfate, total coliform bacteria, E. coli, total dissolved solids, and total hardness. Lead and Copper ($20) test kits are designed for those residents with specific concerns with lead and/or copper due to unknown service line materials in their water systems.
